I need to tell you about this crazy promotion that SHOP.ca is having. It’s blowing my mind because there’s no catch.
From my previous post about how I got the Diono Radian RXT for way less than I should have, you know how much I love SHOP.ca. This week, when I visited the site, I saw this image on the front page:
At first I thought it was one of those “Sign up for this card and get this free stuff along with a hit to your credit score.” No thanks… but then I read that you’re eligible if you’re already a TD Aeroplan Credit Card holder!
So I clicked.
And this what I read:
$50 off at SHOP.CA + 3000 Aeroplan Miles until December 31st.
No minimum purchase required.
I’ve received some sweet deals from SHOP.ca, including a $40 coupon for any purchase over $100. But this offer has no minimum purchase required. They even went as far as saying if you bought something with your TD Aeroplan Visa card and the total comes to $41.27, the total charge will be $0 but you don’t get the remaining balance to use again.
Is anyone getting this? This is insane. Not to mention that you’d need to spend $3000 to get 3000 Aeroplan miles in normal circumstances.
It’s basically saying “here’s a $50 gift, plus a huge chunk of miles towards your next flight.” We’re hardcore Aeroplan collectors which is why A) we love SHOP.ca (triple the miles on any of our purchases), and B) an offer like this is amazing.
They sell great brands on the site so I had a bit of a hard time at first deciding where we should spend the credit. Then I realized that Sweet Pea is gonna want to play in the snow this year (as opposed to last where she just sat there, so I knew that a pair of winter boots were in her future. I did a little search and these popped up:
Cute, right? These boots are $55.00. I added them to my shopping cart, used the code TD and it discounted by $50.00. The tax on top of it came up to $2.25, and shipping was free, so I only had to pay $7.25 with the card.
Everytime I go to SHOP.ca, I access it through my Ebates account where, if you don’t know yet, rewards you with cash back when you visit online shopping websites through their links. (SHOP.ca is notorious for a 20% Cash back rate.) When I was checking out, the box where it asks for the promo code had an Ebates image instead and said that I couldn’t use a promo code in conjunction with Ebates – but that I could switch over if I wanted. No big deal, $50 off was worth more than 20% back in this case. I applied the code and did my little dance after the transaction was over.
The next morning, I see this little gem in my email:
I did a little double take. “Whaaa… I didn’t buy anything? Oh. Wait… but it couldn’t be?” And when I opened it:
I earned $11.00 in cash back? Okay, how is anyone making money here? How can they afford to do this? I actually profited ordering those boots!
Then I realized after several mind boggling minutes, that the TD code was acting as a credit/gift card and not as a coupon which is most likely why the cash back took effect.
[[[ Update 09/15/2015: I just received an email from SHOP.CA saying that my order was cancelled. It did not include an explanation, but I imagine that they realized this Ebates loophole was bonkers since the boots are still in stock on the website. I’ve re-ordered without going through Ebates and was able to use the TD code for the new order without a problem. ]]]
Alls I knows is, that this is the best promotion ever so get on it because it ends on December 31st. If you don’t have an account with any of these websites, use my referral links to sign up here for SHOP.ca and here for Ebates Canada!
Disclosure: I was not compensated in any way for this post. All opinions are my own. If you sign up through my referral links I receive a small credit to my account when you make a purchase that will help keep this site running, so Thank you!!
