2016 Favourites Holiday Gift Guide!
Although Black Friday has come and gone, I know there are some of you out there who haven’t started tackling your Christmas shopping yet. Don’t even worry! I’ve put together a list of my most favourite items of 2016 that have made my life easier and better! This list isn’t for the littles: it’s for grown-ups, and you won’t find anything here hatching out of it’s shell.
So without any further ado, here we go!
($ = <$27 :: $$ = <$75 :: $$$ = $100 and up)
This stuff is awesome. Pro-quality eyeliner that doesn’t smudge and lasts alllll day. The formula is silky smooth, the brush is precise, and it’s less than half the cost of M.A.C. Liquidlast for the same results. Love, love, love.
Available at Shopper’s Drug Mart and NYX Cosmetics.
If you haven’t been using this holy-grail eyeshadow primer before painting your lids, you’re depriving yourself of locked-in shadow that won’t fade, crease or run. When I skip this step, you can tell just a couple of hours later because I’ll look like a sad raccoon. It works, it’s a makeup industry standard, and your eyelids will thank you.

Successful people write down their goals and regularly review them. This journal is amazing for starting off the day full of gratitude, setting your intention, and then reflecting back on what was awesome. It’s a beautiful journal with a fabric cover, inspirational quotes, and a big swift kick of motivation daily, for six months at a time.
Available at Chapters.
I know, more makeup. But listen: this has become a favourite simply because it gets rid of SO many loose pieces in your makeup kit. This includes not only eyeshadow and blush, but 4 colour correction concealers; bronzer; contour; matte highlight and 3 shimmer highlights. It’s packed with every thing you need short of mascara, and the colours are suitable for day and evening looks.
Available at Sephora.
Breville Grind Control ($$$)
This coffee maker is on call every morning at our house and it’s a dream. Notice I said coffee maker – not pod machine – because there are no pre-packaged pods involved anywhere. The Grind Control takes whole bean coffee (or pre-ground if you like) and grinds it up for you just seconds before your cup (or full carafe) is brewed. Yes! You can make 1 cup or 12, and it will adjust how much coffee it uses. The stainless steel carafe is also great because it means you can brew a pot that will keep warm for hours without burning.
Available at Amazon.ca.
Nest Learning Thermostat ($$$)
When we first moved into our house in October, our heating bill was over $120. Then we installed a Nest Thermostat over Christmas and by February, our heating bill was $70. Can I point out that it got colder and our heating bill went down? The Nest senses when we’re away from the house, so it doesn’t alter the temperature unless it dips below or above the range we’ve set. We can also access the thermostat over Wi-Fi, so if we want the house to warm up or cool down on our drive home, we can do that from the app on our smartphone. It saves money, energy, and looks super sleek on the wall. Definitely a must for every home!
